Lampworking Tips:
For Mica powder, let your bead cool some, then heat up the outside of the bead good to get the outer layer really soft, then just roll the bead in the powder. At this point, some people will run the bead in and out of the flame a little, others will consider it done. The reason for this, is if you flash it in and out of the flame a little, you will get more Mica to become part of the bead. If you don't flash it, you will end up with a more mottled look to the finish. Both effects are very eye appealing.
For Mica flakes, make your base bead, roll it in some flakes (a little goes a long way), then encase it. Mica flakes will not stick to a bead by itself. When you smooth out your encasing, make sure to work the bead very cool. If you get it too warm, the mica flakes will cause bubbles, so keep the bead rotating as you heat it. Smooth your encasing by just heating the actual encasing layer. Some bubbles are no biggie, the bead I show on my site has some bubbles and you can't really see them unless you know to look for them. They are fun to work with and are great additions to your beads.

The two gold mica's may look the same on your computer, so I did a finger dip into each
one so you can see the differences. You can click the image for a larger size. On the
left is Inca Gold. It is a rich gold color, not to far off from the actual color of gold. It has
a nice shimmer to it. On the right is Sparkle Gold. It is very, very full of sparkles and
glimmer and is a yellower shade of gold.
